Each folded sheet makes four pages (two on each side). Stapling folded sheets together means the total page count always lands on a multiple of 4. If you are short, we add blank or filler pages.
A page is one printed side. A folded sheet in a saddle-stitch booklet equals four pages. So a 16-page booklet is four folded sheets, counting the cover as four pages.
Saddle-stitch (folded and stapled) is economical for roughly 8 to 64 pages. Perfect binding (a square glued spine) suits thicker books, usually 28+ pages, for a premium feel. We will recommend based on your page count.
How to figure out saddle-stitch booklet page counts
The rule of thumb: a saddle-stitch booklet is built from sheets folded in half and stapled along the spine, and every folded sheet gives you four pages — two on each side. That means your total page count always has to land on a multiple of 4. If your content comes up short, the difference gets filled with blank or filler pages.
The calculator runs the same math we do at layout: take your page count, divide by 4, round up, then multiply by 4 — that’s your valid saddle-stitch total. Divide that total by 4 and you have the number of folded sheets. Switch the binding to perfect-bound and the rule relaxes to any even page count, though a glued spine usually needs around 28+ pages to hold together — below that, saddle-stitch is the better choice.
Say your newsletter runs 18 pages. 18 ÷ 4 is 4.5, so the tool rounds up to a 20-page booklet on 5 folded sheets — you’d add 2 pages, or trim content back to 16.
