Good to know

Common bindery & finishing projects

Most bindery work falls into a few familiar buckets: saddle-stitched event programs, catalogs, and booklets; coil-bound training manuals and guides that need to lay flat; Wire-O pieces where the finish has to look as sharp as the content; and folded, scored, and trimmed brochures and handouts. Die cutting rounds out the list — custom shapes, cutouts, and details like the business-card slits inside our presentation folders.

Every project runs the same way. We design it in-house in Buffalo, you approve a proof, and production runs through our trusted print partners — so the binding method, stock, and finish are matched to your piece rather than to a single machine. Turnaround depends on the method and quantity, so we give you a clear timeline with your quote and keep you posted through production. See how it works for the full process.

FAQ

Bindery & finishing FAQ

Saddle stitch vs coil — which binding should I choose?

Saddle stitching staples pages along a folded spine and suits slimmer pieces like programs, booklets, and catalogs, while spiral coil lays flat when open — the go-to for manuals and guides people page through while they work. Tell us your page count and how the piece gets used and we'll recommend the right method with your quote.

What's the difference between spiral coil and Wire-O binding?

Both lay flat when open. Spiral coil is the durable everyday choice for manuals and training guides, while Wire-O uses a double-loop wire that gives a cleaner, more professional finish for client-facing pieces.

Can you die cut a custom shape?

Yes. Custom die cutting creates shapes and cutouts that make a piece stand out — think custom-shaped handouts or the business-card slits inside a presentation folder. Cost depends on the shape, size, and quantity, so we quote it up front.

Do you offer lamination?

Yes. Matte and soft-touch laminates seal the print so heavily handled pieces like dine-in menus wipe clean and resist curling. We'll recommend the finish that fits how your piece will actually be used.

How long does bindery and finishing take?

It depends on the binding method, size, and quantity — we give you a clear timeline along with your quote and keep you updated through production. Because bindery & finishing is quoted alongside design and printing, there are no surprises at the end.

Can you bind a file I've already designed?

Absolutely. Send a print-ready PDF (we also work with AI, EPS, PNG, or JPG) and we'll handle production and finishing, or we can design the whole piece from scratch. Either way, you approve a proof before anything is produced.
