How to calculate how many signs fit on a 4x8 sheet
Rigid signs are cut from standard sheets of coroplast or aluminum, and the workhorse size is 4 ft × 8 ft — 48" × 96". The rule of thumb: divide the sheet’s width and height by your sign’s width and height, round each answer down to a whole number, and multiply the two. Partial signs don’t count — a sheet only yields complete pieces.
The calculator runs that grid math twice. First with the sign upright: sheet width ÷ sign width, times sheet height ÷ sign height, each rounded down. Then it rotates the sign 90 degrees and tries again, and whichever orientation fits more wins — the result notes when the rotated layout is the winner. It defaults to a 48" × 96" sheet and assumes a straight grid with no cut margins or staggered nesting, so treat it as a planning number.
Worked example: a 24" × 18" yard sign on a 4 × 8 sheet. Upright, 48 ÷ 24 = 2 across and 96 ÷ 18 = 5.33, which rounds down to 5 rows — 10 signs. Rotated, it’s 2 across by 4 down — just 8.
